Variant and cover-type indexing

Variant indexing for Marvel NFT comics labels foil, virgin, and dual-cover treatments as distinct catalog rows.

Variant weeks are where Marvel NFT comic catalogs usually snarl. A single issue number can appear with a standard trade dress, a virgin cover, a foil treatment, and a retailer-style incentive look-alike. If those files share one row, a collector later believes they own duplicates when they actually own four different cover types.

This desk assigns a cover-type code that stays stable across a series. We do not copy official incentive codes from any publisher sheet. We write a studio code such as STD, VIR, FOIL, or DUAL and pair it with a plain-English note about what is visible on the art: logo box present, logo box absent, metallic overlay, wraparound back cover, and so on.

Page count still matters. A twenty-page lead feature with a backup is not the same catalog object as a reprint of only the splash. When a Marvel NFT comic listing is a reprint of an earlier print issue, we mark the reprint status on the variant row rather than inventing a new series title.

Collectors sometimes ask us to “merge everything that looks like Spider-Man.” We will not do that. Character names in listing titles are trademarks of their owners and are poor catalog keys. We index by series title as shown and by issue number, then hang the character mention in a keyword field for search only.

Bring cover screenshots or a folder of exports. We return a variant table you can keep beside your desktop catalog. Call or email to discuss a specific week of covers; we do not take enquiries through a web form.
